'Masters' Gold (Novice Bronze)

I recommend winning... go out and WIN something! When you win, nobody can take this from you! How did I achieve? There's a saying in hockey: "you're only as good as your last shift." You have to build from each day. You also have build from each workout, each exercise, each set, each rep, while having good form, nutrition and so on... it all matters. Reaching to my peak, I never missed a day training, working out at the gym 7 days a week. I practiced complete abstinence from alcohol, drank the occasional black coffee (mostly, I was trying to avoid coffee), ate lots of brown rice and was rarely on social media. What I especially like about bodybuilding is that you could know nothing about somebody, but if he or she competes in bodybuilding, you instantly notice hard work without even knowing the person. Hard work - and the intensity of that work, shows. Nothing needs to be said. It's there for all to see!   WELLNESS WORKS!

1. The best environment for growth.

(What is it for YOU)?

2. Make flourishing possible. 🌱

"Preparation" (Pre-competition)

I think it comes as no coincidence that the years I won cups in hockey were years my training was quite good. I was happy to finish on a winning note, knowing that I was one of the best conditioned athletes in a league and sport where if you're in your 40's you are kind of seen as "ancient." I've had my success playing "a young man's game" (or "young person's game"), but bodybuilding will be a whole new sport.

A single-minded, laser-focused, mindset.

No margin for error. "...STRICT TRAINING..." (my emphasis, 1 Cor. 9:25)!!!!

I trained hard playing hockey, worked full-time, put on lots of mass and was rarely injured. If you're not careful in bodybuilding though, there can be more serious injury than in hockey (for safety, I wear a belt when squatting heavier weights, for example). I did not have to pay attention to my diet so much as hockey player, but a competitive bodybuilding diet will be more demanding than eating kosher. Also, in the WNBF (World Natural Bodybuilding Federation) athletes are polygraph-tested besides having to go through the regular drug testing. It's been passion before profit in my life, and I would say I'm quite happy with this, even though help and support from others has definitely not been something I could consistently rely on. I thought that hockey was demanding. Bodybuilding, without the "special supplements" (that I've always chosen to stay away from), might be even more so. There's no option here, but to train FULL OUT.

Have A Vision; Forget Resolutions!!

Can you see 👓 what you want to be and how you will get there?! That's vision, my friends. Naysayers are "talkers" and speculators... they are not the doers. However, it's clear: if we do not get enough exercise, we die... and that's quite straightforward, isn't it? Happy New Year everybody.  #TimeToTrain  *PHOTOS OF FUTURE

Fitness & Wellness

It's easier to face the world when you have energy, health and confidence. Training the body is getting into that good head-space - and grateful mindset. I've never been able to afford much for clothes, but I could be wearing nothing but rags or worn work wear and still be presenting my best self everywhere (nice clothes are good - but that isn't what counts in the end). I highly recommend intensity training and working at intervals (like 6-15 or so 100 m sprint sets, gradually building intensity - you can jog or walk in between sets), plus starting light with weights and working towards the heavier, building up your complete body and every muscle, while circulating blood to the brain and heart.  Moments In Time

STRENGTH & SPORT: GO HARD!

Work hard, train hard, go hard... Don't impede what's good; rather, support it! Filming and photography by Dave Bodaly (@davespiritwolf).

Renewed

When I complete exercise, I'm renewed and feel like I'm the guy I should be. When I train and run, water (instead of a sugary drink) is good too. I choose to make impressionable training, hiking and athleticism ("...as an athlete..." 2 Timothy 5:2), my life-giving memory - rather than the downside of work or other set-backs. Create memories that you want to retain. Exercise simplifies your life... I know from experience!

DIET OR EXERCISE?

Everybody wants to talk about diet. Less people want to talk about exercise - but exercise is actually much more important, right? Personally I can say, from first hand experience, that exercise naturally helps direct my food cravings. So there you have it! Now get off your butt.

Good Supplement!!

I was able to put on about 20 lbs and probably triple my strength, with minimal supplements, occasional vitamins and basically just training hard and having protein shakes, mixed with raw oats. Now I'm adding in a cool, organic, pure, natural, food and multivitamin (vitamins A, D, K, E...), with more protein than ground beef. Alfalfa has been called "the father of all foods."  (Also available in capsules, that are made from a tree gel - not gelatin, for convenience):  www.suedehills.com

MOVE YOUR BODY

Nobody should have to explain why exercise is good and important - it's fact. So let's all get our butts out of our vehicles and comfortable chairs and get moving. God gave us hands and feet. The body is designed to function... it malfunctions if we choose to neglect it.

WHOLENESS

Training and sport are natural to me. They're in my genetics. The struggle I've had to face is that I come from a background that has been at times overly religious and has not always supported me as an athlete. As a result, I'm opposed to organized religion. Instead, I believe in personal religion... In other words, I believe in Christ's teaching that "...the kingdom of God is within you," and that religion should be a strong, unconventional, faith - a personalized thing and about my whole being. God made the human body... the real temple, you might say.

RUNNER'S REWIND

Thought I'd share something I wrote from May 21, 2012 (this photo is on Westwood Ridge, not Morrell Sanctuary, but it's still one of my favourite places to run). Here it is. "Exercising and running outside makes me thank and praise God... especially on a day like today! Just finished running up through Morrell Sanctuary and back to my apartment. Beautiful morning air. Scents of spring. Smells of tree bark, plants and water. God is good. I feel gratitude, peace and happiness. I always get a sense of renewal when I run. My heart is beating, the rhythm of my stride is formed, I push myself in short distances and up small hills. I feel sweat and heat coming off my flesh. The blood is flowing. I'm alive and in some type of 'zone.' I feel prepared today, with this experience and these memories still fresh in my mind."

'BE A MAN'

Don't be afraid of your farmer's tan. It's unique strength. Don't be afraid of your work clothes. They make you more honourable. Don't be afraid to run a business without employees. Don't be afraid of working real hard every day, besides training. Be confident with your body. It takes humility to keep physically healthy. Dismantle the phony mindset of churches. Deconstruct the banker mindset. Destroy the immoral attitudes of the sell-out music industry. Smash harmful pharmaceutical psychology. Smash inconsiderate mindset. Smash conforming media mindset. Smash rich mindset. Bench press a lot. Squat a lot. Shoulder press a lot. Move a lot. Run and sprint a lot... (I have a sense of time passing when I run. It's a feeling that's able to remind me and comfort me that the challenges and problems of the day will pass. I'm thankful I have the opportunity to enjoy outside on my terms, in some way, at least for a brief time). Be grateful for nature. Be grateful for your body. Let your light shine.
